1988 Rolex Explorer II 16550 Corn Patina - Box and Papers

$0.00
sold out

It has surprisingly been difficult to come across the reference 16550, more so one with box and papers. Very little is available on the market today. This 1988 R6 serial Rolex Explorer II reference 16550 is a transitional late production 16550 as Rolex begins its next generation with the 16570 within the same year. It features the big blocky font bezel. Its black surround for the hour markers and black-lined hands for this serial range is correct, as both the references 16550 and 16570 were in production simultaneously. One will often find a cross of serial numbers present throughout the R serial between 16550 and 16570.

This example has the coveted porcelain dial, which is only found in productions of 16550 and early years of 16570. The hour markers have aged to the desirable yellow against the porcelain dial, nicknamed “Chicchi di Mais” or grains of corn by collectors. The dial is original and untouched. The hands have been matched with period correct tritium.

The watch comes with its original papers, unnamed and undated. The bracelet is the correct 93150 bracelet as stated on its original papers. There is virtually no stretch on the bracelet.

All of its factors for this particular offering — transitional reference, rare, patina, condition, box and papers — make this the perfect addition to one’s collection.
